About us
Goal-Oriented
Taber Law Group PC is skilled in explaining legal risks and developing strategies to achieve our clients' goals. This comes from years of assessing a client's exposure to legal risks and analyzing issues presented by the matter. Success in achieving clients' goals comes from the ability to negotiate and mediate practical solutions to the mater at hand, while carefully analyzing the matter and sizing up the opposition. Taber Law Group PC draws from its attorney's experiences working for the federal government, state government, and as an in-house counsel. In addition, we draw on experience in other disciplines, such as Economics and Political Science, to devise successful strategies to achieve our clients' goals. Cost-Effective Representation
Taber Law Group PC was founded on the premise that clients should be able to find proven, top-quality counsel in a more cost-effective setting. We provide the same high quality aviation, airport development, land use and environmental legal services, corporate, and intellectual property services as larger firms at lower and more flexible rates, with more personal service, and fewer conflicts of interest. |
Client Communication
Whether the issue is transactional, regulatory, or litigation, from the initial meeting with a client, Taber Law Group PC believes that communication and client involvement are critical to success. We work hard to establish the client's goals and develop a budget-minded strategy to achieve those goals. Along the way, our clients re kept informed of the status of their matters. We return all calls and e-mails within twenty-four hours and often much sooner. Good news or bad, clients want to be informed. We make certain ours always are. Our clients include, among others: community groups, residents, and businesses affected by aircraft noise and other pollution; airport FBO’s having issues with airport management or other airport users; pilots contesting certificate actions brought by the FAA; companies who are seeking exemptions from the FAA for flying drones commercially; small businesses with corporate or intellectual property issues.

Steven M Taber |
Steven M. Taber, Owner and Founder of Taber Law Group PC, represents clients in Federal and State Court, in administrative actions, and in transactions related to environmental, aviation and airport development law matters, corporate legal issues, and intellectual property law. He brings a wealth of knowledge to these seemingly disparate areas of practice through his experience as a government attorney, an in-house counsel and an attorney in private practice.
In his capacity as an attorney for the Federal Aviation Administration, (FAA), Mr. Taber was involved with the implementation of the Chicago/O’Hare International Airport Modernization Program, and drafting FAA Environmental Orders 1050.1E and 5050.4B, among other things. Since his return to private practice, Mr. Taber has advised clients in matters arising under the National Environmental Policy Act, the Federal Clean Air Act, Airport Noise and Capacity Act, Aviation Safety and Noise Abatement Act, Historic Preservation Act, Endangered Species Act, and Section 4(f) of the Department of Transportation Act. Mr. Taber is also a Panel attorney for Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) Legal Services Plan. During his time both as an Assistant Attorney General in the Environmental Enforcement Division and as an environmental law partner at Ross & Hardies in Chicago, Mr. Taber acquired extensive experience in all aspects of environmental law including Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (Superfund) (“CERCLA”) litigation, negotiation of Resource Conservation and Recovery Act Consent Decrees, Title V Air Permits, and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permits. For example, in a CERCLA cost recovery action, he successfully argued that “passive” disposal does not constitute disposal under CERCLA and that a corporation is not responsible for disposals of a predecessor sole proprietorship. This resulted in a favorable settlement to the client. U.S. v. Petersen Sand and Gravel, Inc., 806 F.Supp. 1346 (N.D. Ill., 1992). As an in-house counsel at Ameriquest Mortgage, Mr. Taber was responsible for applying for, maintaining, and enforcing the company’s intellectual property. This involved everything from the maintenance and renewal of trademark registrations to preparing corporate trademark policies. It also involved preparing secrecy and confidentiality contracts, corporate policy statements regarding trade secrets, and provisions of employment and/or independent contractor agreements regarding maintenance of trade secrets. In private practice, Mr. Taber has been involved in patent infringement litigation for items as diverse as bicycle derailleurs to process patents for securitizing futures. Mr. Taber is admitted to practice in Illinois and California, before the U.S. Supreme Court and the Second, Third, Seventh, Ninth, Eleventh, and D.C. Circuits, as well as the Northern and Central Districts of Illinois and Middle and Northern Districts of Florida. He has been active in the American Bar Association’s Section on Natural Resources, Environmental and Energy Law, and served as Chair for the Chicago Bar Association’s Environmental Law Committee. He is a frequent speaker on environmental and airport topics and the author of several articles on environmental law. Mr. Taber graduated with honors from Michigan State University in 1981 with a degree in Political Philosophy. He received both his J.D. and his M.A. in Political Science from the University of Michigan in 1986. In between college and law school, Mr. Taber served two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Morocco. |
